Fall Fair Talent Show
July 8th through August 7th in Dryden

Dryden District Agricultural Society Fall Fair Talent Show will be held Saturday, August 28th - with Rebel Spirit.
Pre-registration deadline for those requiring band back up will be August 7th. Categories are Junir (16 & under) Senior (17& older) and Instrumental. Contact Karen at 223-6766 and leave a message with contact information. or email knmleut@live.com
If you do not require the band to back-up your song, the dealine for entering is August 28th at noon.

Cloverbelt Farmers Markets
July 8th through September 30th in Dryden

Get your pick of fresh, local foods every Saturday, from 9am 'til noon, beside the Oxdrift Hall.

They are also held alternate Thursday afternoons, from 3-6pm at the Arena Parking lot. Dates include: July 8, 22, August 5, 19, September 2, 16, 30.

Volunteers Needed for Windsurfing Championships
July 12th through August 1st in Dryden

"The Dryden Ambassador Program is looking for anyone interested in volunteering at the 2010 Canadian Masters Windsurfing Championship taking place at Sandy Beach on August 5th to 8th in Dryden, Ontario. Postions available include supervisors for the vendor areas, beach areas, as well as parking and information attendants. An information and training meeting will take place for all volunteers on Wednesday, August 4th - time and date to be provided upon signup. The Ambassador program is also registered with the Dryden High School as a designated organization and can provide sign off for community hours.

Be a part of this national event and help make this a huge success for our Centennial year in Dryden by providing great hospitality and information for our visitors which will pave the way for Dryden to host other great events like this in the future! Law Enforcement Torch Run
July 17th through August 1st in Sioux Lookout

The Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police are hosting two charity BBQ's to raise funds for the Law Enforcement Torch Run. One on Saturday, July 17th and the second on Saturday, July 24th. Both BBQ's will be held in front of Johnny's Fresh Market from noon until 2:00 pm.

On Sunday, August 1st the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police will be holding their annual Law Enforcement Torch Run. The run starts at 11:30 am at the Sioux Lookout OPP detachment at 62 Queen St, ending at the town information centre. The run will be followed by a charity BBQ at the information centre.

All are welcome!

All proceeds raised from the Law Enforcement Torch Run and charity events go to the Special Olympics.

Air Command Band Coming to Dryden Centennial
July 24th through August 1st in Dryden

The Canadian Forces' "Air Command Band" returns to Dryden on Sunday August 1 for a matinee performance. The band will perform from 3 to 5 PM at the Centre.

Dryden 2010 Centennial Openign Ceremonies

You're invited to the Dryden 2010 Celebration Opening Ceremonies.
This Friday, July 30, starting at 1:00 on the City Hall Lawn. Feel free to bring a lawn chair if you wish.

Atikokan Public Library Children's Summer Programs
July 31st in Atikokan

This summer, the Atikokan Public Library is holding six children's programs through the week. Starting off the week is Trickster Tuesday's at 2 pm Ages 8-11, registration required. Wednesdays we'll have our Summer Storytime at 2 pm, for the younger kids, which provides an afternoon of stories, poems, crafts and fun, open to ages 3-7. At 4 pm take advantage of the library's new videogame equipment with Wii Wednesdays at 4 open to all ages. Thursday afternoons at 2 pm, and action packed outdoor program called Outdoors - Anything Goes is open to children 3 and up with activities and special visitors. In the evenings at 7 pm we have Puppet Party, open to all ages. Ending the week will be Movie and Popcorn Fridays; at 2 pm, join us for an afternoon on the big screen (movies to be announced -all ages). And for those summer detectives, the TD summer reading program theme is Agent 009. Sign up and receive you manual, poster and a chance to enter for our grand prize. Centennial Parade
July 31st in Dryden

Join in Dryden's Centennial Parade on Saturday July 31.

Parade starts at 1:00 PM and features floats, riders, cars, organizations and clubs from Dryden and area. The parde will start at the Moose Hall, go down Duke to Van Horne, North on Van Horne to Queen, then to Earl Avenue, to King Street and up Whyte to the Rec Complex.

Piano Concert and Presentation
August 1st in Sioux Lookout

Nicholas Roth, renowned pianist and associate professor of music at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa will delight Blueberry Festival audiences with a piano concert and presentation on the life and music of Robert Schumann on Sunday August 1.

Spirit Walk at Dryden Cemetery
August 3rd through August 5th in Dryden

The Dryden Genealogical Society invites you to attend their annual "Spirit Walk" at the Dryden Cemetery.

This years "walks" will take place Tuesday August 3 and Thursday August 5 at 7 PM at the Dryden Cemetery.

This is a guided tour of the cemetery featuring a dozen or so stories of some of those buried there. By popular request, a limited number of books containing all 55 stories from previous "Spirit Walks" will be available at ten dollars each.

If you wish to attend, please pre-register by calling Alice at 223-5634.

Remember, this is a 'walking tour' over uneven ground, so please wear appropriate footwear.

Dryden Centennial Road Race
August 6th through August 7th in Dryden

Attention: Residents of Dryden and Sandy Beach Road

The Centennial Run Committee reminds you that on Sunday August 8th a “Running Event” will be taking place on certain streets of Dryden and the Sandy Beach Road between the hours of 8:00 am and 11:00 am.

The west side of Earl Avenue, the southside of Davis Street, the southside of Parkdale Road and the southside of Sandy Beach Road will be affected by this event.

There will be approximately 150 people walking/running this route as individuals or as groups.

We ask you to please give extra care and caution when traveling near and around this running route.

This is a Dryden Centennial Event and you are encouraged to come out and stand/sit along this route and cheer and give encouragement to all the participants.

Atikokan Mudslingers annual 4x4 Mudfling
August 7th through August 8th in Atikokan

August 7th and 8th at the newly upgraded Charleson Recreation Area in Atikokan, come out for two days of big tires, loud engines, and mud EVERYWHERE!

Pro-stock, modified, pro-modified, and open class trucks will begin racing at noon each day. The opening ceremonies are at 11:15am August 7th - done Mudslinger style!

Enter to win door prizes, watch the kids race in battery-powered trucks, or let them play in the sand. Miss Mudfling 2010 will be crowned, and there will be food, beer gardens, and designated drivers on-site.

The Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River District invites you to take part in the 8tth Annual Ride for Memories on Saturday August 28th.

Riders from across Northwestern Ontario are encouraged to get collect pledges and enjoy this annual event. Rider's Early Bird Registration if just $15 (including dinner) until August 8th.

There will be four start locations including Sioux Lookout, Dryden, Kenora and Fort Frances. All riders will meet for lunch at the Totem Lodge in Sioux Narrows before heading for Minaki and finishing at Kenora for a steak dinner at the Kenora Curling Club. Along the way, riders will take part in a poker derby with great prizes.

The DRYDEN MIXED SLO-PITCH TOURNAMENT ORGANIZING COMMITTEE is pleased to announce that we are hosting the 6th ANNUAL DRYDEN MIXED SLO-PITCH TOURNAMENT, which is on August 27th, 28th and 29th, 2010 at the Sandy Beach Ball Diamonds Complex in Dryden, ON.
The Tournament Organizating Committee is looking to have a Tournament comprised of 16 Teams to a maximum of 20 Teams. Each Team entered will have to field a Team consisting of 6 MALES and 4 FEMALES respectively. Each Team being guaranteed a MINIMUM of THREE (3) GAMES each (depending on the number of entries).

Supper meals are provided seven days a week. Lunch meals are provided Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. You have the choice to pick the days meals are wanted.

Dryden Palliative Care Volunteer Program

The Dryden Palliative Care Volunteer Program is urgently in need of volunteers in the community.

Volunteers visit clients in their homes, nursing home, and the hospital. Volunteers play an important role in providing support services for the client and family, companionship, relief for caregivers, transportation to appointments, friendly visits, and end-of-life care.
